This is my first newborn photoshoot, what should I know?

Our sessions are designed to be patient and stress-free, with plenty of time for feeding, soothing, and diaper changes as needed. Parents and siblings are always welcome to join for family portraits, and we encourage bringing any sentimental items you’d like included in the photos. Newborn shoots are typically best scheduled within the first 5–14 days after birth, when babies are sleepier and easier to pose naturally. We recommend feeding your baby right before the session to help keep them calm and relaxed, and dressing them in loose clothing to avoid marks on the skin.

 

what if we go over the alotted time?

We understand that newborn/baby sessions can sometimes take longer than expected, and we always strive to keep the experience relaxed and stress-free for both baby and parents. If your session takes place in your home, we are happy to allow extra time when needed because we know babies may need additional feeding, soothing, or comfort breaks throughout the shoot.


For studio sessions, additional time beyond the scheduled session may be subject to an extra fee due to studio scheduling and availability. We will always communicate this clearly and work with you to ensure you still have a comfortable and enjoyable experience while capturing beautiful memories of your little one.

 

What safety precuations do you take?

 

Your baby’s safety and comfort are our highest priorities during every newborn session. We follow gentle posing techniques and never place a baby in any position that feels unsafe or uncomfortable. All props, wraps, blankets, and surfaces are thoroughly cleaned and sanitized before each session, and the studio environment is kept warm and comfortable to help your baby stay relaxed. We regularly wash and sanitize our hands but if needed or preferred we can wear masks and gloves. We do require a parent to be at arms reach if needed for any comfortable positioning for the baby.

 

how should i prepare for the shoot?

To help your newborn session go as smoothly as possible, we recommend keeping your baby awake for a short period before the session and feeding them right beforehand so they arrive sleepy, full, and comfortable. Dress your baby in loose, easy-to-remove clothing to avoid marks on the skin, and bring extra diapers, bottles, pacifiers, and any comfort items your baby may need during the shoot. If there are special blankets, outfits, or sentimental items you’d like included in the photos, feel free to have those ready as well.


For parents, we suggest wearing neutral or soft-toned clothing without large logos or busy patterns to keep the focus on your family connection and your baby. Comfort is important, especially during longer newborn sessions, so choose outfits you feel relaxed and confident in. If siblings are participating, coordinating colors rather than matching exactly photographs beautifully. Most importantly, come prepared to relax and enjoy the experience — we will guide you through posing and take our time to create a calm, comfortable atmosphere for everyone involved.
